Much like “Thriller,” the video for “Remember the Time” was considered to be a cinematic event when it was released to promote the 1991 Dangerous album. At 9 minutes, this is one of [lastfm]Michael Jackson[/lastfm]’s longest videos, which co-stars Eddie Murphy and Magic Johnson, among others.
This long and cinematic-style music video, called the “rockumentary,” by MTV, has been copied by several artists attempting to create the same theatric drama in their music, most recently with [lastfm]Lady Gaga[/lastfm]’s “Telephone” video. Recent pop musicians have copied other aspects of “Remember the Time” as well, proving how Jackson’s videos truly set industry standards. For instance, the music group [lastfm]N’Sync[/lastfm] mirrored some of the dance moves in “Remember the Time’s” dance sequence in the video choreography for their hit video “Pop.”
