A Very Intimate “Christmas Carol”
If you’re looking for something to take the family to to get in the holiday spirit, you’re in luck!
The holidays are a time for family and friends to gather around the hearthside to share stories and traditions, and that’s exactly what Country Playhouse is offering to Houston audiences this season. For just eight performances, December 8 – 24, the Playhouse invites you to John Stevens’ solo performance of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, where one person has the luxury of playing all the characters in this classic tale.
“I have always loved this story,” says Stevens. “No holiday season is complete for me without a generous helping of Scrooge, poor Jacob Marley, the three ghosts, Old Joe the fence, all the assorted Cratchits, nephew Fred and all the rest. Every one is such a vivid character. Dickens’ text also provides wonderful descriptive narrative.” In fact, this story is so well-suited to being read aloud and re-enacted by one person that Dickens used to take it on tours. He himself was that one performer.
Tickets are just $15.00, and there’s a good chance that some hot cider and figgy pudding will be included in that price. (and don’t forget, there’s a special Christmas Eve performance!) Call the box office 713-467-4497 for reservations, or make them online at www.countryplayhouse.org. (There is no additional charge for online tickets.)
Country Playhouse is located at 12802 Queensbury (in Town & Country Village, across from City Centre) just 2 blocks east of the Sam Houston tollway.
