About 11:40p on Saturday July 2, 2011, Robin Berry was driving her family south on U.S. 285, near Fort Stockton returning home from vacation. A distracted driver in a car approaching from the south swerved into the other lane, causing the head-on crash that killed Robin, her husband Josh, and left her 3 children in serious condition.
Of the children, Willa was the had the least of the injuries with two broken limbs. But Peter and Aaron had spinal cord injuries that left them paralyzed from the waist down. Aaron also had neck injuries that called for a halo, a metal ring pinned to his skull.
Today, Robin and Josh’s 3 children live with Matt (Josh’s brother) and his wife Simone, their legal guardians along with the couple’s previous two kids, Noah and Misha.
Peter, Aaron and Willa have over 28,000 followers on Facebook, with a HUGE amount of support from celebs such as Justin Bieber, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga and Kourtney Kardashian. Groups all around the country have done the same for their “Show Your Hearts” campaign.
Their story is truly inspiring, and I encourage all of you to read about it. The Chronicle has a pretty awesome article about their road to recovery, and how the community has been such a wonderful support system.
