Houston Hospital Set To “Twittercast” Brain Surgery

Social media has really had QUITE the impact on everything these days. From self promotion, to your current status, to directions, to discounts, and many many other things, it’s just another way to give and receive valuable information at your fingertips.

And now, you will be able to follow an entire BRAIN SURGERY through a live “Twittercast” tomorrow as Memorial Hermann Hospital will use social media to educate and promote.

According to The Houston Chronicle, the live event, featuring tweeting and delayed photos and video footage of the procedure, will look in as renowned neurosurgeon Dr. Dong Kim removes a benign brain tumor from a 21-year-old woman who recently began suffering seizures.

Social media is a powerful vehicle to help demystify brain surgery, a source of much fascination to people,” said Kim, former U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords’ brain surgeon at Memorial Hermann. “We think that by providing this up-close glimpse of the OR, we can educate the public, particularly future patients, about what happens during brain surgery, about what to expect.”

How cool is that?? I may have to watch a little bit of this!! Scalpel please??
