Wine & Food Week ends with a bang this weekend in The Woodlands!
Royal Chef Darren McGrady is in town for the Wine Rendezvous Grand Tasting & Chef Showcase presented by Capital One Bank! He’s cooked for the Queen, Princess Diana, Prince William and Harry and five U.S. presidents, among others. He checked in to talk about his life in the kitchen and serve up some summer grillin’ tips!
On Prince William and Harry’s least favorite foods: “They really didn’t like green vegetables. They were royal princes but had children’s palates! The only time they’d eat those when the ‘big bad nanny’ was in the nursery and said, ‘You’ve got to eat your cabbage!'”
On the princes’ favorites: “They liked American-style foods. They just loved the junk food stuff: the burgers, the fries, the loaded potato skins, pizzas and real American food!”
On President George W. Bush sneaking THREE extra rounds of dessert: “He loved his puddings! He said, ‘Hey big fella, this food’s better than the White House!’ So I said to him, ‘Thank you Mr. President, I practiced on four other presidents to get it right for you!'”
Three summer grilling tips from Chef McGrady:
- Get the grill hot, and bring the meat to room temperature before you start cookin’
- Season your grill — rub some onion across it to get some flavor into the meat as soon as it hits the heat
- Salt! Season the meat BEFORE it goes onto the grill, not afterwards
