According to reports, Kevin Clash, an Emmy-winning, famous puppeteer and voice of Elmo on “Sesame Street” Elmo, has taken a leave of absence from the iconic children’s television show due to allegations that he had a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old boy.
The unnamed accuser, who is now 23-years-old claims that he and Clash had a sexual relationship and that relationship began seven years ago when he was 16-years-old; Clash was 45-years-old during the time of the alleged relationship.
Fifty-two-year-old Clash admits to being intimate with the accuser, but only after the teen turned 18.
Clash further reportedly told media outlets that the relationship was between two consenting adults. The puppeteer is furthermore reportedly “saddened” by the allegation that he had a relationship with him while he was not of age.
Additional reports indicate that the Sesame Workshop, the organization that produces “Sesame Street” received “communication” from Clash’s accuser during the summer about the incident.
The children’s company released a statement Monday stating that Clash exercised “poor judgment” in his decision to have a relationship with the male. They further stated that an in-house investigation was conducted but it produced information that discredited claims of underage sex.
Clash’s accuser has reportedly sought legal council from the Pennsylvania law firm of Andreozzi and Associates, best known for representing one of Jerry Sandusky’s victims.
Clash is also the voice of such beloved characters “Baby Sinclair”, “Clifford”, “Splinter” and “Hoots the Owl”. He is reportedly married and has one daughter.
