Phillip Phillips is hitting the road this winter with one of his idols.
The American Idol winner is joining with Matchbox Twenty’s North American tour for 21 shows. Phillips is kicking things off in Catoosa, Oklahoma on January 29, making stops in Texas, Ohio, and before ending up in Bethlehem, PA on February 27.
Rob Thomas and the guys are excited to have Phillips join them and even sent the singer a nice welcoming message.
Will Phillips join the band onstage? We hope so, since he managed to pull off Matchbox’s “Disease” when he was just an Idol hopeful.
Though the judges weren’t that fond of his smooth jazz rendition of the song, Rob told The Hollywood Reporter he was flattered.
“I appreciate what he did with it,” Rob said. “If you’re going to be an ‘idol,’ you need to be more than just a cover artist and I think he made it his own.”
