Rules for Kids, Written by Kids

“Don’t bite the dentist”
“No pushing”
“No toys at the table”
And my favorite: “no coloring on other people.”

These are just some of the more-than-150 rules for kids, by kids found in a notebook left behind in a Walmart parking lot in California.

The wise young advice (though sometimes misspelled: “Resicle”) was enumerated by Isabelle Busath and Isabella Thordsen, cousins aged 10 and 8 respectively.

Among the other rules:

“If you’re going to wet your bed, wear a pull-up”
“Act in a mature way with self control and respect others”
“Don’t color in this rule book”
“No littering”
“No talking back”

And perhaps the most poignant: “Protect this book.”

Raymond Flores is the 20 year-old Walmart employee who found the book and launched the search to reunite it with its two young authors, who now may already be looking at a publishing deal.

Rule 158 had been left blank, so Flores added his own: “Stay in school.”
