Such sad news.
At only 37 years old, country singer Mindy McCready was found dead from what police are saying was a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head at her Arkansas home yesterday. Mindy has had many public troubles in her past involving other failed suicide attempts, drug problems and custody battles for her two sons.
According to the Chicago Tribune, McCready’s body was found on the porch of a house in Heber Springs, Arkansas, on Sunday afternoon. She was pronounced dead at the scene “from what appears to be a single self-inflicted gunshot wound,” the Cleburne County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
In January, the singer’s boyfriend, David Wilson, was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. But questions surrounding the circumstances of the shooting led authorities to keep his death under investigation. In 2004 she was convicted of prescription drug fraud and placed on parole. Three years later she spent time in jail for violating her parole terms.
She had two young sons, Zander, who was born in 2006, and her son with Wilson, Zayne, was born last year.
The sheriff’s office said McCready’s body would be taken to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy, adding that “the matter will be fully investigated.”
