Sharp-tongued Simon Cowell with his “keepin’ it real” philosophy is still scouting for singers despite building highly successful shows built around discovering the next big entertainer.
Cowell, the mastermind behind such shows as “Pop Idol”, “The X Factor”, “Britain’s Got Talent” and “American Idol”, has unveiled a new YouTube channel titled “The You Generation” which is dedicated entirely to audition videos. The channel launched this week in over 20 countries.
The channel which is a joint venture between Cowell and Sony Entertainment, will be conducting competitions every two weeks over the next year in which people will have the chance to upload a video of themselves singing, performing and showcasing their skills. Participants have an opportunity to win a variety of prizes. Upon the channel’s launch, there were more than 89,000 subscribers.
Cowell is known for his blunt and sharp criticisms of up and coming talent and has also been the subject of much controversy for it.
