The stabbings at Lone Star College on Tuesday were ones that rocked the campus, its students and faculty to the core. Despite the chaos and confusion, there were students who acted swiftly and heroically to tackle the stabbing suspect and hold him until he was taken into custody by police for allegedly stabbing over a dozen individuals.
Steven Maida was one of three students who tackled stabbing suspect Dylan Quick to the ground before authorities could reach him. After Maida tackled Quick, he took a picture of Quick being held captive and posted it on Instagram, a picture social networking site.
Maida also told CBS Radio Houston that he initially had no idea what had happened, but did wonder why several students were running: “I was wondering why people were running,” Maida stated. “I had never met [Quick] before but I did want him to be held.”
Known as “@cheesin365″, on Instagram, he posted the picture of the suspect shortly after he was tackled to the ground and offered words after his capture of Quick:
“f**k this m********er…stabbed 5 people.2 girls in the cheek. Everyone ran the other way I said f**k that. Me and this kid got em #lonestarstabbing #f**kthiskid #copsaretooslow”
Maida has been hailed as a hero but still remains humble despite his efforts.
