Barbara Walters Is Retiring After 50 Years

Mentioning shows like ‘The Today Show‘, ‘The Most Fascinating People‘, ‘20/20‘, and ‘The View‘, the one person that comes to mind is Barbara Walters. Seriously, when I was younger my Friday nights were spent on my grandparents couch falling asleep to her voice.

After 50 years in the world of broadcasting, Barbara Walters made the announcement this morning on ‘The View‘ that she’ll be retiring next summer. According to ABC, until the days she retires, she’ll continue to anchor for ABC News, remain on “The View,” and also host tv specials including “20 Years of 10 Most Fascinating People” in December, an Oscars special, and a May career retrospective.

During Barbara’s announcement this morning she said, “I am very happy with my decision and look forward to a wonderful and special year ahead both on ‘The View’. I created ‘The View’ and am delighted it will last beyond my leaving it.”

Regarding her long career she admitted, “No one was more surprised than I. I wasn’t beautiful, like many of the women on the program before me, [and] I had trouble pronouncing my r’s. I still do!

You’ve done a wonderful job all these years Barbara, and you’ll be missed! Watch the video of this morning’s announcement by clicking HERE!
