Since its original release on Apr. 30, 2004, “Mean Girls“has become a cult classic. To date, it has made $121 million at the worldwide box office, and given the world endless amounts of quotes and internet memes.
“Sweat pants are all that fits me right now…YOU CAN’T SIT WITH US!!”
In honor of the movie’s 10 year anniversary, some of it’s original cast members chatted with the New York Times in a new interview, and discussed where the cast is now, Mean Girls the musical and lots more!
According to the New York Times, the movie was written by Tina Fey, at the time was known mainly for “Saturday Night Live.” It was also based on the self-help book “Queen Bees and Wannabes” by Rosalind Wiseman. The movie follows the transformation of Cady (Lindsay Lohan) from the studious home-taught daughter of zoologists just back from Africa to the insufferable pet of the Plastics, as the popular girls at her first American school are known. The cast included future stars like Rachel McAdams (as Regina) and Lizzy Caplan as Cady’s outcast friend, Janis Ian.
On the topic of it becoming a musical Tina said, “It’s early in the process for the musical. We’ve been enjoying trying to write. I wish so badly we could have had it done in some form for the 10th anniversary, but hopefully before the 15th.”
They’re also working on the “Mean Moms” film, and a “boy-centered film project” as well.
