The Whole “Alex From Target” Craze Was A Hoax!

Lauren

Anyone on Twitter in the last few days has probably noticed one of the most trending topics is “Alex From Target.” But WHO IS this kid anyways?

#AlexFromTarget, the cute young cashier who has teen girls going CRAZY for him on Twitter may have just been a marketing ploy after all. Sorry girls.

The cute guy has been identified as Alex Christopher Laboeuf, and after someone Tweeted a pic of him at work his Twitter exploded, and in just 12 hours his account had more than half a million followers. #SAYWHAT?

But it looks like this was all just a huge marketing scheme from a company called Breakr. They claim the viral campaign was centered around an “unknown good-looking kid and Target employee from Texas” to see if they could make a random dude the next viral sensation. It worked.

Breakr CEO Dil-Domine Jacobe Leonares wrote on LinkedIn that “his company was only looking to practice manipulating teenagers, and never thought the Alex from Target meme would catch on the way it did.”

Leonares says the tweet originated with a British Twitter user named Abbie, (@auscalum) who has since denied involvement, claiming she found the photo on Tumblr.

Target even Tweeted it’s love for Alex…
