Reba McEntire has been a longtime supporter of the gay and lesbian community, and she did an online chat recently to talk about LGBT rights.
She’s very honest and forthcoming which we love. She said the first time she ever attended a gay wedding was just a couple months ago.
In country music, where it might not be as widely accepted as another, it says a lot about her character to speak out and talk about real issues like this. On the topic of current country artists who have come out, she said, quote, “It’s really, really sad what they’re living with before they decide to come out.
“And then why they decide to come out, and how they deal with it after they’ve come out – the pressure society puts upon them, their families and what they put upon them, whether they accept it or they don’t.
“You know, my new album is called “Love Somebody” . . . I wish it’d been called “Love Everybody”. You gotta love people for who they are. Accept them, and then go on with life.”
Well done Reba! Well done. We wish more people would follow your example.
