Hot Dog Eating Champ Joey Chestnut Loses Title This Year

Lauren Kelly

There are only a few things that make me cringe while watching on tv, like surgeries, or nails on a chalkboard…or a HOT DOG EATING CONTEST. I’m not sure about you, but the sight of grown adults shoving as many hot dogs in their mouths as fast as they can in under ten minutes makes me wanna BARF.

The annual Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest went down in Coney Island, New York on July 4th and this year they’re saying it was a HUGE UPSET!

For the last 8 years, Joey Chestnut has won the contest but he was OUT-EATEN this year! Oh no, say it ain’t so! (lol) 23-year-old Matt Stonie won by eating 62 hot dogs (and buns) in 10 minutes, while Joey “only” ate 60. Does this make anyone else’s stomach just ACHE?!

Matt grabbed $20,000 for winning the contest, and just FYI, Matt came in second last year after losing to Joey. He ate 56 hot dogs to Joey’s 61. Joey still holds the world record, which he set in 2013 when he ate 69.

I hope they’ve got a good antacid sponsor! 😉
