Life 9 Years Ago When New Horizons Left Earth For Pluto

January 19, 2006 I was living in Orlando, Florida doing afternoons at XL106.7.

Kennedy Space Center was close enough we could see the shuttles in the air from our studio window. I remember watching the New Horizons spacecraft take off on TV then seeing it from my studio window racing towards the sky. Three-billion-miles and 9 years later it finally made it to Pluto! Yeah, 9 years … think about how the world was 9 years ago.

In case you forgot:

1.) The iPhone didn’t exist.

2.) NBC’s 30 Rock made it debut.

3.) Taylor Swift just released her first album (which was country by the way.)

4.) Netflix was a DVD delivery service.

5.) Miley Cyrus made her debut as Hannah Montana on Disney Channel.

6.) Myspace was the most popular website in the world.

7.) Saddam Hussein was charged and found guilty of crimes against humanity and sentenced to death by hanging.

8.) Steve Irwin / The Crocodile Hunter died

9.) Google buys YouTube

10.) The Rolling Stones performed the halftime show at Super Bowl XL.

11.) Ozzy Ozbourne, Black Sabbath, Miles Davis and Lynard Skynard are inducted into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame.

12.) After 15 years with NBC’s “Today” Show, Katie Couric announces she is leaving to join CBS.

13.) Taylor Hicks is crowned your new American Idol winner.

14.) Britney Spears was the most searched-for topic on Yahoo that year.

15.) “Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” Was the top-grossing movie that year.

And if you can’t remember New Horizons taking off, here it is..
