The horrific attacks on Paris on Friday night sent shock waves across the world. A global response of solidarity was swift and wholly supportive from world leaders to citizens, with messages of unity and sentiments assuring those affected by the heinous massacre were being held in the hearts and prayers of practically every human world-wide.
In this time of true sadness, one of the most difficult emotions to appeal to is that of laughter and levity. When you are a show that hinges on humor, the challenge of letting the show go on on the heels of global horror without seeming inappropriate or offensive is a big one.
Last night, Saturday Night Live accomplished that challenge masterfully. Ditching their usual opening comedic monologue; SNL cast member Cecily Strong delivered a somber and sensitive bi-lingual message paying tribute to the City of Light and offering New York City’s love and support.
Her emotional homage was poignant and you can watch it above.
