I love the Amazon Echo. I didn’t know that I would love it, or that it even existed, until last week when it arrived at my house as a gift for the holidays. I certainly didn’t need another speaker in my house (I’ve got the Sonos system – which I also love, and a Bose bluetooth) so my wife wasn’t thrilled when ANOTHER noise maker showed up. But the Echo is like nothing else in our house; It’s like Siri for your house, only better. Here’s my favorite things about it so far:

The voice recognition software is pretty amazing. Very rarely does it ever get stumped.

The Amazon Prime music is fantastic. I ask it to play Coldplay, Matchbox 20, or Kings of Leon, and off it goes.

LOVE that I can walk into the kitchen in the morning while I’m getting ready, say “Alexa, what’s the news?” and it spits out a well produced NPR report.

I ask for sports scores during my morning routine too, and it auto-tailors it Houston and surrounding areas.

Really love that I while I’m making myself a bite to eat and realize I need to get more of something I can just say “Alexa, add milk to my shopping list” and it does. That list auto-populates in the app in my phone. For me, it makes creating a shopping list WAY easier.

Haven’t gone as far as to get the auto light switches yet, but that’s coming, so I can just say “Alexa, turn off the Christmas lights” and the  outlet it’s plugged into will automatically power on/off – depending on my request.

The only negative I’ve stumbled across is that it’s pretty pricey. It ranges between $149-$179 depending on when you buy it (lower end was around Cyber Monday). But if you’re planning on spending up for an important person / customer / boss in your life, this is a gift that is sure to impress.
