This might not come as a surprise to some of you, but I had no idea Elle King is Rob Schneider’s daughter.
No idea who Rob Schneider is? This is him:
He’s starred and co-starred in tons of comedies like The Waterboy, Hot Chick, Deuce Bigalow and You Don’t Mess With The Zohan.
The “Ex’s and Oh’s” singer goes by the last name King but was born, Tanner Elle Schneider. According to The Huffington Post, King took her mother’s last name at the age of 18.
“‘I took on my mom’s last name because she raised me, and I wanted to be my own person,’ she told Billboard magazine in 2015.”
King credits her stepfather as inspiration for her start in the music scene. “I am only a musician because of him,” she told ABC News “I think that it was something that was inside of me, but he saw that and he definitely nurtured it and pushed me to, you know, dig deeper into music and step outside of things that were beyond just pop culture and, uh, learn about good rock and roll.”
As for Schneider, aside from advice on how to treat fans, in her interview with ABC, King says he never really gave her much industry advice except for, “He just wanted me to keep his last name!”
She’s obviously done a great job making a name for herself, it seems like not a lot of people know the two are related and she was nominated for a Grammy for Best Rock Song which you can’t deny is super catchy! It seems like she would have made a name for herself whether she used her dad’s name or not.
Do you think Elle went a little far saying her dad never gave her any advice except for asking her to keep his last name? He’s already a successful actor and probably didn’t ask her to keep it in an effort to stay relevant, but maybe as a means of honoring him as her father.
