Taylor, Demi, Ellie & More Support International Women’s Day

Today (March 8th) marks International Women’s Day, which celebrates the “social, economic, cultural and political achievement of women.” A handful of female pop stars, including Taylor SwiftEllie GouldingAriana Grande and Demi Lovato, used various social media platforms to voice their support for women and the specific day recognizing all of their accomplishments.

In addition to recognizing the significant strides women have made to equalize their role in societies around the world, International Women’s Day also calls attention to the great deal of work still necessary to end gender discrepancy. By taking a ‘Pledge for Parity,’ people can read what world leaders are promising to do, and offer their own contribution. Swift did just that when she tweeted out a link to the pledge and stated, “So grateful and inspired for today.”

Ellie Goulding tweeted a picture with a more exasperated tone, one that expresses frustration at the fact women still have to fight for basic human rights in 2016. Ariana Grande and Demi Lovato took more inspirational approaches to their posts. Each one shared a message that encouraged women to continue being badass superheroes capable of anything.

LL Cool J and Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder were a few of the rare male artists to speak up about the day. Check up the rest of roundup below:
