New Keurig Coffee Tastes Like Plastic?

After having a Keurig 1.0 for many years, and being mostly satisfied with it, I wasn’t too upset when it stopped working and had to go to Bed, Bath and Beyond and buy the Keurig 2.0 this past weekend. That was, until I got home with it. A couple of problems I immediately noticed:

  • Every cup of coffee I made (after cycling it through a couple of times) tasted like plastic.
  • My favorite cartridges (Bulletproof Coffee)┬ádidn’t work in the Keurig 2.0, since they weren’t official K Cups, even though they worked fine in the 1.0

When it comes to getting rid of the plastic taste, this guy claims to have the solution in just a couple of simple steps (like running a cycle with vinegar). Check em out HERE.

The cartridge issue? Yeah, it’s because the Keurig corporate team stinks. According to Mashable, the “official K Cup only” decision was made to maintain profits, even though they knew it would upset their customer base. They intentionally made it so ONLY officially licensed K Cups will work, since they get a piece of that pie. While I see how that seemed like a brilliant decision in a board room, as a loyal consumer who is buying your $200 coffee maker, I think I’ll make my own decisions on what coffee I drink (and, frankly, I don’t care if you profit off it or not).

So, my review that no one asked for, on the Keurig 2.0 is not a good one. I would probably just bite the bullet and deal with the K Cups issue, if the machine didn’t make coffee that tastes like Tupperware.
